I got to my desk this morning, and what did I find? Well yes, a mess, but also a reminder of how much my wife rocks. The last book of the Twilight Reign has been sent to Gollancz and Fi decided to put together a little something for me. So I thought I'd share it – not least because contains a sneak-peek at the artwork for Dusk Watchman… In case you're interested in that…

Are you going to have a “Shiny” event for the pre-release? If so, how may I be included for this, the final book?

Well, at the moment I’ve not even thought about planning such a thing. I do think it should be a big party to celebrate the whole series being out, maybe with a Forbidden Planet event beforehand, but at the moment I’m still taking suggestions…!

I think Twilight Reign is actually kind of a rare bird in this environment, in that you’re completing it while still a fairly young man. What often seems to happen is that a series is found and sparks the imagination and makes huge gobs of money which in turn frees the author from editorial restraint.
JK Rowling seems like she probably has shot her bolt with the Potterverse, and may well be working with it for the foreseeable future (and good on her for making it big). I gather GRRM’s first love is actually his Wild Card series.
Stephen King seems to be a whole other kettle of wax, and I think his disappointing conclusion to his epic series has to be taken in the context that, I believe after book 5, he nearly died and had heard mass fan reaction to this as being “Oh no, now we’ll never know how the Dark Tower ends!” So he forced it through.
As for how to sell that to readers, I have little idea unfortunately.

Cover art has been done for months, you can see a small pic of it on the mousemat Fi did for me, top right, but it’s not been officially announced as there isn’t a version with the title and name on.
