One of my colleagues has shown me the limited edition version of Son of Heaven, the first novel in David Wingrove’s updated series. Dear gods it’s beautiful – nice and classy on the outside and slip-case, wonderful finish on the inside.
I’d have gone for a copy anyway since I’ve now technically read a condensed version of books 2 and 3 (since book 1 of the original series has been expanded and cut into two, with a new prequel) but now I have to get two copies! Can’t read something so pretty on the tube….
As far as I can tell, the original Book 1 (THE MIDDLE KINGDOM) is now Books 3 and 4. Both the new Books 1 and 2 are 100% new, orignal prequel novels.
Working out where the old books fall in the schedule of the new ones is quite confusing, as the first seven of the old books have been thoroughly reworked and re-edited, whilst the eighth has been completely replaced by a new, four-volume conclusion.
It’s certainly a bonkers project. Corvus must have some serious publishing cajones.
Fair enough! As for Corvus, there ain’t much that worries those Cheetham boys…
