Musical ramblings

Two thoughts about music occurred to me yesterday. Firstly, that my copy of Chinese Democracy had arrived, and it was most excellent, while secondly that I really don’t get why people are raving about the new Bruce Springsteen single. I heard it on the radio and quite aside from the fact that 95% of the song seems to consist of two lines and the title (which gets more than a little annoying when it’s repeated so many times) what really pisses me off about it is that it sounds like the sort of limp trash that would be used as the title music for a US teen TV show like Dawson’s Creek.

Seriously, have a think about the soft focus shots of small town American and weirdly good-looking angsty loners when you next hear it. With luck I’ll ruin it forever for you as I did Shakira’s "Hips Don’t Lie" for my beloved when I pointed out what the line "I’m on tonight" made me think of…..

Anyone with me? More importantly, anyone ruined a song for anyone else?

    1. Ah, for a girl it did…

Have also just remembered my mate’s more sinister interpretation to the Coldplay line “I will fix you” – I can now laugh when I hear that song so it works the other way too!

  1. Yes! I thought I was the only one. One doesn’t dare criticise the Boss in public, lest one gets looked at in a funny way, so I’m glad you said it first. It is a BOOOOORING song. I harbour an intense dislike of unimaginative lyrics, and repeating the same line over and over is NOT songwriting.

Anyway, with you all the way. ;)
