Signings, em-mass, some sort of uncomfortable group session most likely…

Thus far the only people I’ve actually signed copies for are Goldsboro books, since they’re always nice and supportive of blokes like me, but Forbidden Planet are – at the suggestion of David Devereux whose book I’ve already read and greatly enjoyed – now organising a mass-signing later this month. The details are:

22nd of Jan, at FP on Shaftsbury Avenue and starting at 5pm (but I’m in the office that day so I’ll only be getting there at 6 I reckon, feel free to turn up at five and spend an hour throwing novelty dolls at Joe Abercrombie. Just if you want…)

And the list of folk who’ll have the fans queuing up and wondering who I am sitting all alone is:
Dave Devereux
Alex Bell
Jon Courtenay Grimwood
Steve Savile
Mark Chadbourn
Joe Abercrombie
Suzanne MacLeod
Me

Feel free to wander along, just don’t expect me to draw a little picture on the title sheet to increase the resale value on e-bay. I’m so bad at drawing it’ll only damage the price…

  1. Arse. That would have been cool and I would have come down but it’s my 30th, so I’ll be celebrating at home in Colchester with many friends and much alcohol instead :-)

  3. Oh my word, what a frighening concept. Your and that John Applecrumble in the same room, plus your strange friend with the hidden cameras…I foresee terrible, terrible things.

Seriously though, why does Forbidden Planet, all hail it, always do the cool signings on school nights? What working girl is supposed to make it into town for 5pm? Not this one, that’s what. I’d have loved to come and throw stuff. Anyway, have fun! Oh hey, you could bring your new balloon animal-making kit! That would impress the masses No. End.

        1. Surprisingly few, I think. Most of them stick with slightly nervous laughter, although Tom prefers to name hangovers after me and blame me for breaking his friends.

          What can I say? It’s a calling.

          1. Not to the signing, no. Quite apart from the fact that I can’t be in town much before 8 on a school night, there’s no denying the fact that I suffer from uncontrollable fangirling, which makes signings a much too mortifying experience for me to voluntarily attend them.

The pub, however, generally happens afterwards, and allows me to observe the glamourous world-famous authors in their natural habitat – and from a safe distance. ;)

Plus I need to take a picture of you to show to the police…

    1. They don’t always do them on a school night, but Thursday is a traditional day for publication so it probably just fits in that way better.

Maybe I’ll bring the balloon kit in case things are going a bit slow for me…

          1. Ooh, multi author event! I might just have to pop my head round the door :o)

          2. It is who you think it is…
Once my computer decides to let me onto the forum I’ll have a look at the thread. Stupid computer…
